Over a quarter of a century ago, Stephen and Prue Henschke began a search for a vineyard site in the Adelaide Hills. They eventually chose Lenswood, 50km from their ancient Mount Edelstone and Hill of Grace vineyards. The vineyard is positioned at the top end of a long beautiful valley of apple orchards and natural forests.
The 16 hectare property currently produces Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The surrounding area stays green until January and the humidity is greater than the lower lying regions. This cooler and more humid environment results in higher natural acidity, perfect for the production of high quality and regionally unique wines.
The wines are exemplary in quality and the styles European. Prue's meticulous work in the vineyards (incorporating organics, biodynamics, Scott-Henry trellising) ensure that the fruit from these cool climate vineyards is pristine and exhibits definitive varietal purity.
