Chateau La Lagune, named ‘3rd Growth’ in the 1855 classification, was purchased in 1961 by Champagne Ayala and now by M. Jean-Jacques Frey.

Significant investment has been made in the winemaking facilities and vineyards. Innovations (a system which avoids harsh pumping for example) complement tradition (indigenous yeast, pre-fermentation maceration, separating press wine, as examples) which result in wines, whilst retaining the usual cepage of 50% to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% to 30% Merlot and an unusually high balance of Petit Verdot, have extraction and weight yet remain very stylish and with suggestions of Pomerol-like richness.
